School Visit: St. John’s, Brussels, Belgium
Fact or Fiction
On September 13th, I was invited to talk to some fifty 4th and 5th graders at the St. John’s International School in Brussels.
We discussed how difficult it can be to distinguish facts from fiction in a world with so much fake news. And how challenging it is to read a historical novel, where fact and fiction are mixed. Through an interactive voting game—TRUE or FALSE—we experimented with ways to judge new information, and we learned that it’s almost always a good idea to ask more questions.
Thank you, students and staff from St.John’s International School, for a lovely morning of exchange. I know Chantal and the whale will be in very good hands with you all.
